The field of psychological science impacts virtually every dimension of human life. At Iowa State University, distinguished psychologists engage students by sharing their enthusiasm for the discipline through participation in pioneering research, teaching practical solutions to everyday challenges, and motivating them to create positive change.
Iowa State's psychology department offers doctoral programs in three specialized fields: cognitive psychology, counseling psychology, and social psychology, along with a graduate Certificate in Quantitative Methods. These graduate programs are shaped by faculty research expertise, with intersecting interests forming multiple research groups including a specialized focus on psychology and law. Graduate candidates have the opportunity to combine their studies with a co-major from another department (such as human-computer interaction or neuroscience). Details regarding co-majors can be found in section 4.3 of the graduate college handbook. Psychology graduate students can access further resources through the Graduate Students in Psychology webpage.
