The Department of Art and Visual Culture provides degree programs centered on fine arts and visual studies, featuring coursework in studio arts, art history, art instruction, and scientific illustration. Available degrees include the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Art and Design, Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Integrated Studio Arts, and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Integrated Visual Arts. Students can choose from ISA's studio disciplines such as ceramics, digital media, drawing, furniture/woodworking, illustration, jewelry and metalsmithing, scientific illustration, mixed media, experimental art forms, painting, photography, printmaking, and textiles.

Throughout the four-year program, students build a professional portfolio and train for careers in visual arts. This program combines aesthetic principles, visual problem-solving, analytical skills, and technical development, incorporating historical and cultural context, current movements, and hands-on studio work.

Transfer students with prior studio coursework may submit a portfolio for credit evaluation toward program requirements. This portfolio review occurs during admission, before class registration. Students should coordinate this process with departmental advisors.

The department provides an undergraduate minor in Illustration and collaborates with interdisciplinary minors in Classical Studies, Critical Design Studies, Design Studies, Digital Media, and Textile Design.
