The SJSU Pictorial Art Program occupies a distinctive position in time and location to explore painting's fundamental and multifaceted capacity to generate thought, alongside emerging technologies that also seek to create knowledge. Visual arts not only present existing knowledge but also stimulate fresh cognitive and creative engagement. According to David Joselit, Professor of Art, Film, and Visual Studies at Harvard, this dynamic possesses a special capacity to render digital and social networks visible. SJSU's Bay Area setting provides an advantage. As a California State University institution, our students benefit from proximity to the area's economic, intellectual, and cultural sectors, along with their valuable assets.
