Our distinctive urban education Ph.D. program stands out in the U.S. with a diverse faculty where more than 60% identify as people of color and student cohorts that consistently exceed 60% diversity. This program offers a profound exploration of both the strengths and systemic disparities present in urban educational settings. As a participant, you'll cultivate deep insights into urban communities' rich resources while confronting the obstacles faced by urban schools, such as: Addressing disparities and leveraging strengths related to ethnicity, race, language, socioeconomic status, sexual identity, ability, and cultural background across educational environments. Examining the fundamental relationship between schools and their surrounding communities. Analyzing the intricate policy landscape and political dynamics shaping urban education systems.
Students with bachelor's degrees who are interested in the Ph.D. program can enter the masters program at IUPUI with an urban education focus and matriculate to the doctoral program if they successfully meet all requirements. A master's degree is required before entering the Ph.D. program.
