The BS in Nursing program at IUP equips students for a career as registered nurses. RNs serve as patient advocates, focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, and supporting patients and families through healthcare challenges. Our comprehensive curriculum readies students for the demands of this fulfilling profession.
During the first year, students complete foundational science and liberal arts coursework. Nursing classes and clinical rotations start in the sophomore year's first semester. Clinical training occurs at various facilities within about 60 miles of Indiana, Pennsylvania, encompassing locations like Greensburg, Latrobe, DuBois, and sometimes the Pittsburgh region.
Program outcomes align with AACN's baccalaureate nursing education competencies: assessment, communication, critical thinking, and technical skills, with professional role development as an additional key outcome.
Graduates of this bachelor's program will be prepared to:
Apply evidence-based practice and critical thinking to deliver optimal healthcare.
Utilize information systems and technology to improve healthcare results.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, communities, and healthcare teams to ensure safe, high-quality care.
Deliver safe nursing services across all age groups and prevention levels through individual and team-based approaches.
Take on leadership positions that champion both patient welfare and professional standards.
Uphold the moral, ethical, and legal principles of the nursing profession.
