This doctoral program mandates at least 90 graduate-level credit hours. Up to 30 credits from a completed Master's degree can be applied toward the Ph.D. requirements. Students must complete a minor field of study. The language requirement offers three options: demonstrating reading ability in two foreign languages, advanced competency in one foreign language, or comprehensive knowledge of a single foreign language. Additionally, students must acquire one approved research methodology. The program allows for pursuing a Folklore minor through the department and/or counting Folklore courses toward the Ethnomusicology Ph.D. degree.
Applicants for the PhD must have an MA by the time of matriculation into our PhD program, and they also should include a brief description of their proposed dissertation research.
