The Comparative Literature Ph.D. program provides comprehensive and demanding education in cross-cultural literary analysis. The curriculum focuses on multiple critical dimensions of literary scholarship: theoretical frameworks, textual examination through cultural, historical, political, and religious lenses, transnational literary movements across periods and genres, and interdisciplinary connections with other art forms. With its intimate size and adaptable structure, our program grants significant autonomy in selecting coursework and research directions. When combined with Indiana University's diverse academic resources, this enables each graduate student to craft a personalized study plan aligned with their academic passions and capabilities. Program alumni emerge with an expansive understanding of comparative literary traditions, multilingual textual interpretation skills, and profound insight into literature's interplay with intellectual, artistic, and societal developments.
