The four-year Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) program combines hands-on clinical training with in-depth study of vision science fundamentals. Starting immediately, students tackle real patient cases that integrate optics, biology, disease processes, genetics, and pharmacology. They gain experience across our two clinics: the urban Indianapolis Eye Care Center and Bloomington's Atwater Eye Care Center, serving diverse populations. IU's O.D. candidates begin conducting eye exams during their first term, progressing quickly to independent patient care under expert supervision, managing everything from routine vision checks to complex conditions like cataracts and diabetes-related eye issues.
