The School Social Work specialization equips you with the expertise to support students during critical moments. You'll complete a year-long practicum in a school environment, working alongside educators and families. This hands-on experience involves developing tailored education plans (IEPs) to meet student requirements. Your role includes offering counseling to individuals, groups, and families while connecting students with external resources when necessary. As an advocate, you'll ensure students receive essential services beyond school walls. The Illinois State Board of Education mandates passing the state's social work content exam for Professional Educator's License eligibility with School Social Work endorsement. Advanced Standing admission is available for those holding a CSWE-accredited BSW degree earned within the past eight years (international social work degrees are ineligible). Applicants must indicate Advanced Standing qualifications during application, verified through transcript review and CSWE accreditation checks. All standard university and program admission criteria still apply for Advanced Standing candidates.
