The Neuroscience and Physiology (NP) group brings together students, post-doctoral researchers, and faculty who take a unified approach to studying these interconnected disciplines. Neuroscience explores the biological basis of behavior through neural mechanisms, while Physiology examines functional processes in living organisms. Our research covers all biological scales - from genetic and molecular components to cellular systems, tissue networks, neural circuits, and whole-animal behavior. Investigators utilize diverse methodologies including genetic manipulation, molecular biology, cellular assays, microelectrode recordings, advanced microscopy, optical imaging, EEG, computational modeling, and behavioral analysis. Ongoing studies address core questions in molecular neuroethology, cellular/systems/human neuroscience, and cellular/transport physiology. Our graduate program delivers an extensive educational experience in Neuroscience and Physiology, featuring rigorous coursework sequences that merge cutting-edge research with dedicated teaching, all closely aligned with laboratory investigations.
