The English major's Creative Writing track boasts a nationally recognized program that champions unconventional and blended writing styles while prioritizing theoretical exploration and teaching methodologies in Creative Writing. This innovative program nurtures student creativity, offering specialized coursework in their preferred genres - whether fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or mixed forms. Participants examine diverse literary works while mastering how writers apply theoretical concepts and aesthetic principles. The curriculum supports students in honing their craft while deepening their genre knowledge through both creative and academic approaches. It promotes extensive literary reading and includes language and linguistics studies to strengthen students' command of their essential writing instruments. The program covers various subjects including fiction writing, poetic forms, creative nonfiction, scriptwriting, novel composition, autobiographical writing, literary reportage, feminist literature, narrative studies, trauma narratives, digital media in literature, African diaspora writings, African American literary traditions, and avant-garde poetic techniques.
