Literature equips us to comprehend and investigate our thoughts, emotions, and worldviews—helping us define who we are and aspire to be, both individually and collectively. It plays a vital role in fostering freedom and its diverse manifestations, evident across numerous disciplines where examining and critically assessing impactful, transformative ideas and communication is essential. These fields span teaching careers at all levels, from elementary education to higher education, emerging tech industries like game development and data interpretation, public service roles in government and nonprofit organizations, media professions in publishing and journalism, as well as advertising and marketing across traditional and digital platforms.

The Literature B.A. offers specializations in general literature, creative writing, and language-specific literatures, along with an undergraduate minor and graduate programs including Ph.D. and standalone M.A. degrees
The Creative Writing specialization fosters imaginative and critical engagement with language and culture. Participants refine their craft through collaborative workshops, exploring narrative techniques and stylistic decisions with mentors and fellow writers. This intimate program cultivates a tight-knit network of undergraduates, graduates, and professors. Admission to the creative writing track requires an application. All students can contribute to campus media outlets, including student-led publications and KZSC radio.
