Illinois Tech provides a close-knit academic environment where faculty members offer individualized guidance to tailor degrees to diverse career goals, particularly through specialized program tracks. The M.S. in biology creates pathways for careers across multiple sectors including industry, business, legal fields, policy-making, administration, or scientific research, serving either as a final qualification or as groundwork for doctoral studies.
Students can select between a thesis track or a non-thesis track to fulfill degree requirements.
The thesis track prepares students for experimental biology careers in academic institutions, government agencies, or private industry, while also serving as a stepping stone to Ph.D. programs. Admission to this track is competitive.
The non-thesis track caters to professionals in science administration, policy development, patent law, and related fields. Completion requires either a library-based research project or hands-on laboratory research.
