The Bachelor of Music program prepares students for advanced studies or professional careers in musical performance. Music Performance majors can focus on various specializations including voice, piano, guitar, strings, winds, percussion, or commercial music. The School of Performing Arts brings together music, theater, and dance programs, committed to delivering top-tier education and performance opportunities. Our facilities include the Stephens Performing Arts Center, the Fine Arts building (housing most music classes), and the Red Hill Building (primarily for dance instruction). The Music Department provides undergraduate and graduate degree options such as Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music Education, and Master of Education in Music Education. Music majors engage in coursework that builds a comprehensive foundation for careers in teaching, performance, audio technology, production, and further academic pursuits. All university students can participate in diverse musical ensembles, ranging from Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band and Marching Band/Basketball Band to the Idaho State-Civic Symphony, Chamber Orchestra, Opera Workshop, Jazz Big Band, Video Game Music Ensemble, and various chamber groups. At ISU's music department, students benefit from exceptional faculty mentorship, collaborations with guest artists, and access to the renowned L. E. and Thelma E. Qualification Requirements
Freshman applicants must submit official secondary school mark sheets and diploma. Mailed documents must be originals or copies certified by the school principal or controller of examinations and sealed in a school envelope. Documents not in English must be translated by a certified translator. Official transcripts are also accepted by email if sent directly from the school principal or registrar. Students who do not meet minimum English proficiency requirements may apply for conditional admission, during which time they will need to be enrolled in an intensive English program, such as ISU's IEI program, in preparation for full-time academic study at ISU. Have graduated from a high school or secondary school with satisfactory grades, received a diploma or certificate of graduation, and be eligible for admission to a major university in the country from which they graduated. An overall accumulative grade point average of 2.0 for all University courses is required for graduation. The Music Department requires a Music GPA of 2.5 as a standard for graduation
