The Early Music Department provides bachelor's and master's programs centered on historically informed performance using period instruments, enhanced by music theory and scholarly investigation of early music. Its research division, the Historical Performance Institute (HPI), produces publications, recordings, and organizes conferences dedicated to early music. International students enroll to train with our renowned faculty in early instrument or vocal performance. Situated within a leading university, the department and HPI collaborate with other disciplines such as music history, literature, medieval studies, linguistics, and visual arts.
