The Bachelor of Music program prepares students for advanced studies or professional careers in musical performance. Music Performance majors can focus on various specializations including voice, piano, guitar, strings, winds, percussion, or commercial music. The School of Performing Arts brings together music, theater, and dance programs, committed to delivering top-tier education and performance opportunities. Our facilities include the Stephens Performing Arts Center, the Fine Arts building (housing most music classes), and the Red Hill Building (primarily for dance instruction). The Music Department provides undergraduate and graduate degree options such as Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music Education, and Master of Education in Music Education. Music majors engage in coursework that builds a comprehensive foundation for careers in teaching, performance, audio technology, production, or further academic pursuits. All university students can participate in diverse musical ensembles, including Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band, Marching Band/Basketball Band, Idaho State-Civic Symphony, Chamber Orchestra, Chamber/Concert Choir, Opera Workshop, Jazz Big Band, Video Game Music Ensemble, and various chamber groups. At ISU's music department, students gain exceptional experiences working with accomplished faculty and visiting artists in the renowned L. E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center, a cutting-edge venue recognized among the country's finest performance spaces.
