All the hard work culminates when a musician steps onto the stage to deliver a refined performance. As a music performance student, you'll enhance your skills on your principal instrument or vocal technique under the mentorship of experienced faculty members.

The Music Department's most valuable asset is its team of over 30 full- and part-time artist-educators, including accomplished composers. Students receive weekly one-hour private lessons throughout their four-year program, totaling 32 credits across eight semesters. The curriculum also includes eight music theory courses along with diverse supplementary classes.

Like students in IUP's other four music degree programs, Music Performance majors must participate in ensembles. With more than 20 options available, ranging from vocal groups to instrumental collectives, you'll find ample performance opportunities. IUP's recital attendance requirement helps broaden your musical understanding while providing regular chances to showcase your talents in our campus performance venues.
