The Languages program provides a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Spanish, a specialized BA in Spanish for Healthcare Fields, along with minor and certificate options in Spanish and Japanese. Students can also study French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Russian. These language studies equip learners for diverse careers in healthcare, interpretation, business, education, government, and public service. Language majors develop strong skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing while gaining cultural and historical understanding. They can also combine language studies with other disciplines or enhance professional degrees with valuable linguistic training.
Spanish language skills significantly strengthen applications to U.S. medical schools. The Spanish for Health Professions major specifically enhances graduates' competitiveness for healthcare careers and advanced medical education.
This specialized major focuses on three key components: Language Fundamentals, Healthcare Studies, and Cultural Studies. Students demonstrate their Spanish fluency through an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI), which also prepares them for medical interpreter certification.
