Medical Assistants support doctors in patient examinations and treatments while handling administrative tasks to ensure efficient office operations. Their responsibilities differ based on practice size, location, and medical specialty. Clinical tasks, governed by state regulations, involve measuring vital signs, documenting medical histories, explaining treatments, preparing patients for exams, aiding during procedures, collecting lab samples, conducting basic lab tests, assisting with minor surgeries, and performing diagnostic tests like EKGs, urinalysis, Holter monitoring, and spirometry.
This training covers all specialty fields, including orthopedics, cardiology, pediatrics, OB/GYN, dermatology, and gastroenterology. You'll interact with patients, manage appointments, handle insurance claims, maintain financial records, and perform other clerical duties. Additional responsibilities may include supervisory tasks assigned by employers. Potential workplaces include private practices, multi-specialty clinics, public health departments, urgent care centers, laboratories, insurance firms, and medical billing companies.
