The Performance program cultivates the technical proficiency and artistic expression needed for a career in concert performance. The bachelor's degree curriculum is structured as a four-year, full-time course of study. Participants take diverse classes and join various performance groups to develop into well-rounded, accomplished musicians. Typically, students must present a senior recital during their last academic year. Howard University's music department boasts a storied legacy dating back to 1870 with its initial course offerings. By 1892, it became a formal department within the Normal School, and by 1914, it evolved into a standalone conservatory.
