The music performance major offers focused training in these instrumental and vocal disciplines: piano, strings, winds and percussion, and voice. Piano pedagogy serves as an optional specialization for piano performance majors pursuing their bachelor's degree. Additionally, students in either music performance or music education bachelor's programs may elect to minor in jazz studies.
To earn a Bachelor of Music in performance, students must specialize in one of five areas: piano, strings, winds, percussion, or voice. Those selecting strings or winds must designate a primary instrument. Applicants not meeting the College of Music's musicianship standards may require additional time beyond the standard four years to complete their performance degree. The Piano Pedagogy specialization remains available as an elective for piano performance majors. Jazz studies also continues as an optional minor for music performance degree candidates.
