The Department of Theatre Arts focuses on cultivating skilled theatre professionals, including performers, scholars, historians, and educators. We strive to produce exceptional theatrical work while deeply exploring and preserving the traditions of Black theatre. Our goals include: Offering comprehensive training that blends theoretical knowledge with practical skills in theatre arts. Exposing students to varied theatrical forms while emphasizing African-American theatrical traditions. Fostering understanding of interconnected Fine and Performing Arts disciplines and their application in theatre. Equipping students with fundamental performance techniques for stage, screen, and television. Each specialization track is overseen by an appointed Area Coordinator under the Department Chair's leadership. Theatre Arts majors receive guidance from their respective Area Coordinators and must formally select a concentration, passing required auditions or interviews for their chosen focus.
