The undergraduate and graduate programs at the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies are consistently ranked among the nation's best. Our B.A. in theatre aligns with the University of Maryland's liberal arts mission and remains an open-enrollment program—no auditions, portfolios, or interviews are required for admission. Our distinguished faculty includes working professionals who excel in all aspects of theatrical arts, from acting and playwriting to design, technical theater, and production. Alumni have forged successful careers across entertainment industries, earning recognition on Broadway, in films, and on television. Graduates have collaborated with artists like Beyoncé, produced major tours like Glee Live, held executive roles at Paramount Pictures, and led casting departments at major studios.

Through collaborations with prestigious venues like Arena Stage, Ford's Theatre, The Kennedy Center, and Woolly Mammoth, our curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning and career preparation.
High school students and students with fewer than 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of university-level credit beyond secondary school should apply as freshman applicants.
