Housed within the Social Science Division of the College of Arts & Sciences, this undergraduate program emerged from the transformative Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. It remains committed to promoting the welfare of African diaspora communities, encompassing African Americans, continental Africans, and Caribbean populations of African descent. The department's scope spans local, national, and global perspectives. It stands among the few academic institutions with faculty specializing exclusively in Africana Studies.
