This interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science program is tailored for students aiming to focus their undergraduate education in natural sciences while preparing for advanced studies in medicine or healthcare fields. The curriculum offers a strong foundation in fundamental biomedical sciences while providing flexibility to pursue a minor or select from numerous elective courses. We particularly recommend complementing healthcare preparation with electives or a minor in humanities or social sciences.
The BS program mandates at least 45 semester hours combining biology and chemistry, supplemented by physics and mathematics requirements, plus a minimum of 3 semester hours dedicated to laboratory or clinical research. The generous elective allowance enables students to deepen their knowledge in humanities, social sciences, or languages. Applicants must complete at least 16 semester hours in program-required science courses at Hofstra, with grades below C- in required science courses not counting toward degree completion.
Upon major acceptance, students receive dedicated academic advising. All course scheduling must be done in collaboration with the assigned program advisor. Both overall and science-specific GPAs must remain at or above 3.5 for program admission and continuation.
