The Bachelor of Science in Counseling and Addiction Recovery Sciences (CARS) equips students for successful careers in human services administration and client support, covering areas like substance abuse counseling, community organization leadership, nonprofit management, and case coordination. The CARS program also establishes an excellent groundwork for those aiming to pursue advanced studies in counseling, family therapy, addiction services, or related mental health disciplines. This curriculum focuses on professional preparation and practical service implementation, with all courses rooted in family systems theory and its real-world applications in human service environments. CARS alumni gain distinctive expertise in foundational counseling techniques, therapeutic approaches, organizational leadership, administrative skills, program implementation, and cultural sensitivity. The program also educates students about addiction processes, including prevention strategies, evaluation methods, treatment protocols, and interpersonal dynamics. Degree recipients qualify to sit for the Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor exam and apply for intern status with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Certification Board of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors.
