The BS/MA program combines classroom learning with hands-on training across diverse school environments, featuring full-time student teaching for the BS degree and a practicum for the MA. The curriculum incorporates literacy, multicultural education, and information technology across all program components. It aligns with the New York State Learning Standards for Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, and Bilingual Education. After completing at least 149 semester hours and meeting all degree requirements, graduates earn a BS/MA and qualify for New York State certification in Early Childhood (B-2), Childhood (1-6), and a Bilingual Education Extension.
This accelerated dual-degree program spans five years, including select January and Summer terms, and mandates successful completion of 149 semester hours—with a minimum of 118 s.h. at the undergraduate level and 31 s.h. at the graduate level. Students accepted into the MA Bilingual track may substitute up to 9 s.h. of undergraduate coursework with equivalent graduate-level classes from the MA in Bilingual Education program.
