Dive into captivating research fields with the power to create meaningful societal impact. Starting in their very first year, Hofstra chemistry undergraduates get hands-on experience with advanced lab equipment and collaborate with professors on studies influencing healthcare, environmental science, engineering, and more.
Known as the central science for bridging all scientific disciplines, chemistry provides excellent groundwork for careers in medicine, engineering, environmental studies, healthcare, or teaching.
Hofstra's chemistry program introduces students to core chemistry branches through fundamental coursework. The curriculum covers organic and inorganic chemistry, analytical and physical chemistry, plus biochemistry, alongside required mathematics and physics classes. Upper-level electives feature specialized topics like pharmaceutical chemistry, ecological chemistry, bioinorganic studies, and electron theory.
The biochemistry track equips students for graduate studies in forensic science, biochemistry, pharmacology, neuroscience, and molecular biology, as well as professional programs in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and physician assistant training.
