English Literature caters to the modern English major in the 21st century. This program equips students to explore, examine, and interpret timeless works from history, contemporary pieces, and future literary creations. Alongside studies of classic canonical authors, the curriculum offers cutting-edge courses covering subjects like eco-literature, speculative fiction, gothic tales, graphic narratives, and other evolving forms—all taught by our renowned faculty of accomplished, published scholars.
English Literature concentrators engage with British, American, and worldwide English-language works. Their studies emphasize writers, themes, literary forms, and historical contexts. English majors can specialize in one of four tracks: English Literature, Children's/YA Literature, Creative Writing & Literature, or Publishing Studies. Those selecting English Literature explore diverse literary courses centered on themes, authors, genres, or historical eras. Creative Writing & Literature students balance literature classes with workshops in fiction, poetry, plays, essays, screenwriting, and children's literature. Publishing Studies majors split their curriculum between literature courses and practical studies of publishing history, industry practices, and essential professional skills. The Children's/YA Literature track combines literary analysis, creative writing, publishing knowledge, and psychological insights to prepare graduates for careers as authors, critics, or editors in children's literature.
