The Liberal Studies for Elementary Education program equips students to transfer to a four-year institution for their bachelor's degree while fulfilling subject requirements for the multiple subject teaching credential. These courses partially meet the prerequisites for both integrated and traditional teacher preparation programs at California State University.
This curriculum provides pre-professional subject preparation for elementary teaching, aligning with standards set by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). The program may also prepare students for paraprofessional roles in K-12 educational environments.
Aspiring K-12 educators should collaborate with their Counselor to identify the optimal pathway for achieving their career objectives. Those intending to transfer should complete coursework tailored to their chosen institution's requirements. Students are strongly advised to confirm transfer preparation details by consulting a GWC Teaching Counselor.
Upon completing this program, students will be able to:
Recognize the characteristics of effective educators as defined by California's Teaching Profession Standards.
Understand the purpose and elements of a professional teaching portfolio that meets California's Teaching Profession Standards.
Cultivate strong classroom observation abilities.
