The Cosmetology program requires at least 1000 hours of instruction to equip students with foundational skills for a career in cosmetology. Participants will gain specialized knowledge in hair science, skincare, makeup application, and hands-on salon practice. Graduates qualify to sit for the California State Board licensing exam. To progress through the program, students must maintain a C average (2.0 GPA) in all coursework. This daytime-only program operates Monday through Friday with mandatory attendance. Strong English language skills are essential for both academic success and safety; students lacking sufficient proficiency may need to pause their studies. The department enforces specific conduct, grooming, and attendance standards. Applicants must be at least 17 years old and possess a valid SSN or ITIN to register for the state exam. For detailed requirements, consult the Cosmetology Office.
Supply Expenses
The department office will outline uniform specifications, footwear requirements, and material fees for the professional toolkit. All kit purchases must be made with cash, money order, or cashier's check - credit cards and personal checks are not permitted.
