Georgia State's Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) program aims to equip students for leadership positions in social work, collaborating with others to address current and emerging issues affecting communities both domestically and globally. The M.S.W. program centers exclusively on community partnerships, following a generalist practice approach. Those specializing in Community Partnerships learn to enhance community well-being by advocating for social and economic equity while unlocking human potential. The curriculum emphasizes tackling systemic challenges like poverty, violence, discrimination, and social inequalities that disproportionately impact marginalized populations and weaken community resilience. This distinctive approach allows students to examine urban social problems through a lens of justice and equity. Alumni have emerged as influential figures across multiple service sectors, including healthcare, child welfare systems, nonprofit administration, and beyond.
