Clinical neuropsychology is a specialized field focused on studying and applying knowledge about how brain functions relate to behavior. Professionals in this area employ scientifically validated evaluation and treatment methods to enhance cognitive abilities in both healthy individuals and those affected by neurological disorders or injuries.
Doctoral candidates in the Clinical Neuropsychology program undergo comprehensive education in general clinical psychology along with focused neuropsychological training that meets the American Psychological Association's (APA) standards for clinical psychology doctorates and aligns with the Houston Guidelines for neuropsychological education.
The program trains students to become research-oriented practitioners. They acquire abilities to analyze and synthesize information critically, formulate research-based theories and alternative interpretations, design methods to test these ideas, and communicate effectively in both academic and public settings. Additionally, they master cutting-edge clinical techniques, employing assessment and treatment approaches supported by scientific research. Graduates will meet pre-licensure requirements for clinical practice in most states and will be well-prepared for specialty certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology.
