The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Applied Linguistics addresses the global demand created by English's role as the primary language of international discourse. With English being widely adopted in higher education worldwide, this program tackles two key challenges:
Conducting studies on diverse interconnected subjects, such as adult language acquisition for academic English, effective instructional methods for adult learners, and the characteristics of English as an academic medium.
Developing doctoral-level educators capable of training future master's degree instructors in Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language.
Ph.D. candidates can specialize in various areas. Potential research directions include second language skills development (writing, reading, listening, speaking), academic language analysis, evaluation methods, teacher thought processes, classroom interactions, sociolinguistics, or cultural influences on language learning.
