The Music Education faculty assesses every Music Education student before they can enroll in advanced methods courses to verify their eligibility. These requirements consist of: 1) a minimum overall GPA of 2.5, 2) at least a 2.5 GPA in all music-related courses, 3) grades of C- or better in every concentration course, and 4) a B or higher in MUS 3310 - Introduction to Music Education. Additionally, students must show teaching proficiency as judged by the faculty and exhibit professional qualities and conduct appropriate for working with children in educational settings.
Students apply for admission to the Music Education/Teacher Education program at the conclusion of MUS 3310 - Introduction to Music Education, using the form provided by the faculty. Prerequisites include finishing 60 credit hours of study, including Area A and D courses. Passing the Georgia Educators Ethics Assessment is mandatory. Further tests, such as the GACE music content exams, must be completed during the student's final semester at GSU.
