Our LL.M. program in Environmental & Energy Law equips students with specialized expertise to excel in environmental and energy law careers.
Students can tailor their academic journey from more than 60 courses covering US and international environmental law, energy law, and related fields. The curriculum spans introductory environmental and energy law courses to focused seminars on topics like environmental justice, water rights, wildlife protection, food and drug regulation, energy markets, and the nexus of business, sustainability, and human rights. A distinctive Environmental Lawyering Seminar in the first semester fosters intellectual exchange, strengthens peer connections, and provides intimate access to our distinguished faculty.
The degree requires hands-on experience through externships or practicum courses. Washington, D.C. offers exceptional externship placements across law firms, energy corporations, government bodies, NGOs, and global institutions. Structured practicums in natural resources and international environmental law allow students to tackle actual cases with faculty guidance, while the Georgetown Climate Center provides opportunities to address pressing climate and energy policy challenges.
