The Master of Arts in German and European Studies (MAGES) is a rigorous two-year, full-time interdisciplinary program. This curriculum offers a solid foundation in five key areas—comparative politics, cultural studies, economics, history, and international relations—while allowing students to specialize in their preferred field.

The program starts with mandatory core courses that examine European studies through different academic lenses. Students then select electives, which can be taken within German and European Studies or in other departments across Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service.

By completing the MAGES program, students gain comprehensive insights into European issues through multiple disciplinary approaches. They develop strong interdisciplinary analytical skills, including the ability to apply theories across fields and synthesize diverse aspects of complex problems.

Graduates emerge with the capacity to combine academic learning with practical expertise in their chosen European studies focus. The program enhances students' proficiency in verbal communication, analytical writing, independent and collaborative research, and two European languages. These combined skills prepare graduates to actively contribute to transatlantic discussions.
