Georgetown provides a Ph.D. in Theological and Religious Studies, an interdisciplinary program enabling students to engage in the analytical and comparative examination of theology and religion. With more than twenty dedicated faculty members, the Theology and Religious Studies Department features experts in Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Daoism. Our scholars specialize in key areas such as religion in public life, comparative theology, philosophy of religion, religious ethics, scriptural analysis, and religion's role in globalization. The Doctoral Program encourages applications from students whose research explores interreligious dialogue and modern challenges of religious diversity in our interconnected, multicultural society.
Recognizing the growing importance of cross-cultural and interfaith understanding, along with the evolving complexities in religious studies and theology, the Department of Theology and Religious Studies has designed a doctoral program centered on religious pluralism's influence on these fields. The department boasts faculty expertise in both religious studies and theology, ensuring the program incorporates methodologies and perspectives from both disciplines.
