The master of arts in art therapy program at George Washington University equips students for professional roles across educational settings, healthcare facilities, research institutions, and beyond. Guided by certified art therapy faculty, students develop their creative identity while studying diverse elements of art therapy, trauma education, diagnostic methods, and evaluation techniques. The program establishes a strong theoretical base in counseling approaches for individuals, families, and groups, along with psychopathology and developmental psychology.
Learners may choose to specialize further through thesis work. Before graduating, all candidates fulfill approximately 1,000 mandatory internship hours. Upon completion, alumni are qualified to pursue professional credentials in both art therapy and counseling.
