This program is tailored for educators who have a minimum of one year of classroom experience. It offers a state-recognized curriculum that may qualify participants for Virginia's K-12 Reading Specialist certification. (Additional state certification prerequisites consist of holding an initial teaching license, achieving a passing score on the required state exam, and completing at least three years of contracted teaching.) The curriculum deepens educators' knowledge of literacy progression, research-backed literacy studies, and proven teaching, evaluation, and intervention techniques. Additionally, it fosters leadership abilities essential for the Reading Specialist role. Participants must maintain a B- average or better in all certification-related courses.
