Our nationally acclaimed master's program for reading specialists equips graduates to work as literacy coaches, reading specialists, or interventionists across K-12 schools and higher education institutions. The program also caters to both practicing and aspiring educators who seek deeper expertise in fostering strategic, engaged readers and writers while continuing their classroom teaching. Students gain comprehensive training in literacy theory alongside innovative, research-backed instructional methods and literacy program administration. The curriculum includes both guided and independent practicum opportunities focused on literacy evaluation and intervention. To graduate, participants must finish a culminating capstone project and pass the Oklahoma Reading Specialist OSAT exam during their final semester.
Courses follow a hybrid format, combining 3-5 in-person sessions (held on weekends or Friday evenings) with online components each semester. With two courses offered per term, including summer sessions, students can complete the degree in just five semesters.
