Worcester State University's Master of Education in Reading program equips you with both theoretical foundations and hands-on training to earn initial licensure as a reading specialist in Massachusetts.
The university provides three distinct study paths:
MEd in Reading (Option 1)
MEd in Reading with Reading Specialist Licensure (Option 2)
Non-Degree/Reading Specialist Licensure (Option 3)
Under the guidance of expert faculty, you'll develop expertise in language acquisition, reading pedagogy, and inclusive teaching strategies. The program emphasizes practical application through fieldwork, culminating in a literacy research project and a digital portfolio showcasing your mastery of program competencies while boosting your professional growth.
Students can participate in faculty-led literacy research and join the prestigious Alpha Upsilon Alpha honor society through Worcester State's Beta Mu chapter—one of just two in Massachusetts and the sole graduate-level honor society on campus.
Alumni of this distinguished program qualify for roles as reading specialists, literacy coaches, or ELA directors. While many graduates pursue these specialized positions, others apply their enhanced skills to enrich their classroom teaching practice.
