Educators require more than just earth science fundamentals to foster middle and high school students' understanding and passion for the natural sciences. This curriculum enhances teaching candidates' grasp of adolescent learning processes, educational principles, and effective science instruction methods. During the first academic year's fall and spring terms, participants spend three full days weekly in classrooms: three weeks of observation followed by ten weeks of student teaching in the same setting. The second year intensifies this experience to five full days weekly - two weeks of observation preceding twelve weeks of student teaching. Successful completion results in a Master of Science in Teaching degree and qualifies graduates for New York State initial certification.
Participants fulfilling all program requirements, completing coursework, and demonstrating field experience competencies receive Fordham University's endorsement for New York State initial certification in their chosen teaching specialization.
