The Foothill College Paramedic Program holds accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). This intensive 15 to 18-month paramedic course starts every Fall Quarter.
Designed for EMTs with a minimum of three months full-time experience (or equivalent part-time work totaling 480 hours), the program begins with three quarters of classroom-based learning, held twice weekly. Starting in the second quarter, students participate in hospital specialty rotations (including operating rooms and obstetrics). The remaining quarters focus on emergency department rotations and ambulance field internships. The curriculum surpasses state mandates by incorporating U.S. DOT National EMS Education Standards, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and other critical training. Students become eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs paramedic exams, with the program maintaining a perfect pass rate on the NREMT Written examination.
Upon completion, graduates receive a certificate of achievement and can apply for California paramedic licensure, which is mandatory for practicing in the state.
