Our department's research covers all fundamental chemistry fields (Analytical, Biochemistry, Inorganic, Materials, Organic, and Physical) while promoting a strongly collaborative, interdisciplinary approach focused on Health Chemistry, Advanced Measurements & Analysis, and Energy & Materials Chemistry. Prospective students should review faculty research specialties in their preferred area to pinpoint suitable laboratories for their studies. We recommend direct communication between applicants and faculty members to discuss shared research interests and training possibilities.
The thesis-based program aims to equip students with advanced chemistry knowledge and hands-on research experience. After choosing a primary research advisor, students form a supervisory committee led by this advisor. This committee designs a customized study plan meeting University and college requirements, including at least eighteen credit hours of graded coursework and three hours of graded directed individual study (DIS). The course-based program offers rigorous technical training with reduced research focus, requiring at least twenty-one of the mandatory thirty-two semester hours to be letter-graded courses at the 4000 level or higher.
