The Biochemistry Program offers a Plan A (terminal) M.S. degree, pending approval from the Graduate Studies Director. Financial support for tuition or stipends is not provided by the Biochemistry M.S. Program, meaning these expenses must be covered either by the candidate or through funding from the advisor's research budget. Any financial assistance from the sponsoring advisor to M.S. candidates will not exceed the standard Ph.D. stipend amount. Applications to the M.S. program require a letter from the faculty research sponsor, submitted alongside university application materials. This letter should outline the proposed research project or focus area and confirm the faculty member's commitment to provide guidance, lab space, and necessary resources. The program mandates either one year (two semesters) of full-time enrollment or two years (four semesters) of part-time enrollment (typically equivalent to two full-time years). During the first year, students complete required coursework (30 credit hours) while beginning their research. The second year focuses on research culminating in the submission of an M.S. Thesis.
