The Juris Doctor program at the College of Law spans three years, starting with fundamental courses before advancing to contemporary theoretical and interdisciplinary studies. First-year students build a solid base in legal history, doctrines, procedures, and analytical skills essential for advanced coursework. During the second and third years, students enjoy nearly complete flexibility in their studies, choosing from diverse electives. These include theoretical classes, industry-specific courses (covering healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and sports/entertainment law), and hands-on learning experiences that prepare graduates for careers in business, government, and legal practice.
The joint J.D./M.P.A. program between the College of Law and Askew School of Public Administration & Policy allows simultaneous completion of both degrees. Law students must consult with the joint program coordinator and submit required materials by March 1 (for summer) or July 1 (for fall) during or after their first year. The coordinator then forwards applications to both schools for review. Students with prior M.P.A. credits or those applying after their second law year must secure written approval from the College of Law before joining the joint program.
Applicants to the M.P.A. program must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and an upper division (junior and senior) grade point average of 3.0 or better.
