The College of Law's JD program spans three years, starting with fundamental courses before advancing to contemporary theoretical and interdisciplinary studies. First-year students build a solid base in legal history, doctrine, procedures, and analytical skills essential for advanced coursework. During the second and third years, students enjoy nearly complete elective freedom, choosing from diverse subjects and teaching methods. Our curriculum features both theoretical classes and industry-specific courses covering healthcare, pharmaceuticals, entertainment, and sports law. Practical learning opportunities abound, preparing graduates for careers in business, government, and legal practice. Beyond our renowned business, environmental, and international law programs, we boast exceptional criminal law studies. Ten joint-degree options are available through collaboration with other Florida State University departments. Hands-on experience comes through our family law, children's advocacy, and business law clinics, plus numerous externships across Florida and beyond. Student organizations offer additional practical learning, with Mock Trial and Moot Court programs developing advocacy skills, while three student-led journals provide platforms for refining legal research and writing abilities.
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution, or will have earned a bachelor's degree prior to the commencement of fall classes in order to be eligible for consideration.
