The Spanish Program provides both Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Spanish. Master's candidates can opt for either a thesis-based or course-based track. Within these MA options, students may specialize in one of three focus areas: Iberian and Latin American Literatures and Cultures, Linguistics, or a combined Linguistics & Literature concentration. MA candidates must acquire and apply fundamental knowledge relevant to their professional discipline. They are also required to show comprehension of research methodologies, along with creative problem-solving skills applicable to literary, cultural, or linguistic studies.
The doctoral program typically demands at least 30 credit hours beyond the master's degree. PhD students can specialize in either Iberian and Latin American Literatures and Cultures or Hispanic Linguistics.
