The Spanish Program provides Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Spanish. For the master's degree, students can opt for either a thesis-based track or a course-based track. Both MA options offer three specialization areas: Iberian and Latin American Literatures and Cultures, Linguistics, or a combined Linguistics & Literature focus. MA candidates must acquire and apply fundamental knowledge relevant to their professional discipline. They should also exhibit comprehension of research methodologies and/or demonstrate creative problem-solving skills applicable to literary, cultural, or linguistic studies.
The PhD curriculum typically demands at least 30 credit hours beyond the MA. Doctoral students may specialize in either Iberian and Latin American Literatures and Cultures or Hispanic Linguistics.
